UK WorldSkills chef opens new Adande factory and then promotes the competition by cooking with catering students at City College, Norwich

FactoryOpening1Chef Ben Murphy took a day off from his busy practice schedule for WorldSkills 2011 to help formally open the new production facility for Adande Refrigeration, in Lowestoft, Suffolk.

Ben jointly cut the tape with local MP for Waveney, Peter Aldous, who praised Adande’s “innovative and highly sustainable refrigeration”.

The new factory provides much needed room for expansion. Adande has doubled its production in each of the last three years, due to high demand from chefs, restaurateurs and fast food chain operators in particular.

Head of the Hotel, Hair and Beauty School at City College, Norwich, Steve Thorpe, (pictured with Ben) says 90 of the college’s trainees, including chefs and front of house staff, hairdressers and beauticians, will be visiting WorldSkills at Excel London in October to support British skills competitors.

UK cooking competitor, Ben Murphy, visited City College to give a talk to trainee chefs.

Ben Murphy at City CollegeRecently promoted to demi-chef at Koffman’s, London, Ben, 20, told the students about his training, work experience and his love of catering competitions…“I just love winning!”

Questions followed about his favourite restaurant (The Square), where he would most like to get work experience next (America) and what was it like to be selected for WorldSkills (practising as much as possible, even on your days off).

“All of my family are coming to watch me at WorldSkills and none of them have seen me cook properly before apart from a few practices at home. My family has helped support me all the way through to the WorldSkills final, especially with equipment and food.

I am looking forward to having the chance to show them and everyone else what I can do,” said Ben. WorldSkills 2011, 5-8 October, ExCeL London, is the largest international skills Competition in the world, with more than 1,000 competitors from 50 countries. It brings together young people from across the globe to compete to become the best of the best.
